An Open Letter to Mr. Bush

An Open Letter to Mr. Bush…

Dear George W. Bush,

We are almost the same age.  We are both white males. We are both Americans.  The resemblance may end there.

  • You apparently believe that violence can overcome violence.  I believe that violence begets violence.

  • You apparently believe in retributive justice.  I believe in restorative justice.

  • You apparently believe that human lives can be sacrificed in the name of ideology.  I believe that no ideology worth believing in would condone the taking of a single human life.

  • You apparently believe that ends justify means.  I believe that there is little distinction between them and that means quickly become ends.

  • You apparently believe that an American life is worth more than a life from anywhere else in the world.  I believe that any life, from any place, is worth the same.

  • You apparently believe that with control of government comes license to advance special interests.  I believe that with control of government comes the responsibility to advance common interests.

  • You apparently believe that changing what something is called, changes what it is.  I believe that reality eventually presents itself no matter what it is called.

This is not your land to do with as you will…this is our land…as much mine as yours.  What privilege you have had of leadership you have forgone by virtue of your betrayal of the trust of the office.  It is time for you to step down and begin to learn about the basics of democracy, the ones that you have so often used as a front for your predetermined agenda.  I think you should have learned first to be a citizen of a democracy before you contrived to be its leader.

Most sincerely,

Robert E. Rich

Robert,
It has been my understanding from the beginning that George has been handled by others, those of a power elite, including his father. Because of this conviction of mine, I do not feel it is particularly constructive to address the patsy.

I am intrigued by the recent slackening of George's tether. If his handlers give him enough slack he will undoubtedly "mess things up" sufficiently to warrent even tighter control by a subsequent administration. If the public reaction is toward George, focus will not be on the power elite. This is particularly true of reactions in the Senate and House of Representatives. Even if there is an impeachment, the "Republicans" will have to take control of the situation.

I agree with these comments, especially that George Bush is really a conduit...in my opinion...a mouthpiece and tool of the neo-conservative movement. The fact that he appears to have little consciousness of his own principles beyond those that can be quoted from scripture, makes him the perfect pawn to play. The piece I wrote was more just a device to constrast what I thought were broad themes that have emerged and could draw political framing lines for the future.

Thanks for your comment.
